Matt discovered modern tabletop games during his college days in 2008. While studying video game development, his professors encouraged him to explore board game design as a way to sharpen his understanding of game mechanics. It was then that he encountered classics like Catan and Wits & Wagers. However, it wasn’t until 2012 that Matt truly immersed himself in the modern board gaming world, uncovering a treasure trove of creativity, strategy, and fun that he’d been missing.

As a converted video gamer, Matt quickly fell in love with the screen-free, social nature of board gaming. Over the years, the hobby evolved with him, and solo board gaming has become his primary way to play. But when his game group gathers, he’s always ready to share the table.

Matt has a soft spot for mechanics like worker placement, deck-building, tableau-building, and tile placement. He draws inspiration from brilliant designers such as Tom Lehmann, Mike Elliot, Uwe Rosenberg, Alexander Pfister, and Phil Walker-Harding. Through Board Game Hits, Matt shares his passion for solo board gaming while celebrating the mechanics, strategies, and designers that make the hobby so special.
